520 |a An updated cost estimate for the proposed Alaska LNG project has trimmed $5 billion from the construction price, but the cost would be much highter per tonne of output capacity than most other proposed LNG developments around the world. Comparisons are made to the Ichthys Project, LNG Canada Project, and other projects. Current LNG prices have reduced demand. Meanwhile, AGDC is still looking for private developers to take the lead in the project, and it faces opposition from intervenors. First, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, wants a rehearing for advancing its case for the Port MacKenzie terminal site, and second, on June 22 the Center for Biological Diversity and Earthjustice filed a request on behalf of the Sierra Club, the Northern Alaska Environmental Center, and the Chickaloon Village Traditional Council.
