Summary: | Fran Ulmer describes a trip during the first week of August 1976 to observe three proposed gas pipeline routes and to tour energy facilities in Alaska. She accompanied four commissioners of the Federal Power Commission (FPC); three attorneys representing FPC, conservation groups, and the State of Alaska; Administrative Law Judge Nathum Litt; and representatives for BLM, El Paso Alaska Company, Arctic Gas Study Group, and Northwest Energy Company. The group toured the LNG plant in Kenai, flew over Prince William Sound to Valdez, toured the Valdez terminal and port facilities, flew to Gulkana, then Northway Junction, then Fairbanks, along the highway to Galbraith Lake, then to Barrow. She describes the town Barrow and a council meeting held there. They flew to Prudhoe Bay and toured the industry facilities, and then to Arctic Wildlife Refuge and back along the coast. She closes by describing the conduct of the participants during the trip and their political relationships. |
