This report constitutes the U.S. President's decision to select the Alcan Project for the transportation of Alaska natural gas, following the review that was required by the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Act of 1976 (ANGTA). This report also describes in detail the basis for the decision favoring the Alcan project, based partly on the Federal Power Commission report entitled "Recommendation to the President : Alaska natural gas transportation systems" dated May 1, 1977.
The first section, "Decision of the President, Decision on an Alaska natural gas transportation system", appeared the previous month as a section called "Decision on an Alaska natural gas transportation system" in the publication "Decision and report to Congress on the Alaska natural gas transportation system" issued by Executive Office of the President, Energy Policy and Planning. This is followed by 17 reports and news releases by various U.S. and Canadian offices on the proposed natural gas pipeline system. The last section is the text of the ANGTA law.
