Description
Summary:The proposed Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project in Alaska may affect raptor species. In order to predict and quantify effects that may result, this study is being conducted to characterize population size, productivity, nesting phenology, habitat use, and migratory movements of raptors. The study will also provide information required for a possible application(s) for federal eagle take and/or eagle nest take permits. Through the use of aerial surveys, all raptors are studied with a focus on bald and golden eagles. The raptor study area includes a buffer zone around the proposed reservoir and road, rail, and transmission line corridors (including the Denali corridor linked to the Denali Highway and westward to Cantwell). This document details Alaska Energy Authority's efforts in implementing the study thruogh the end of 2014, describes the methods and results of the study so far, and is intended to supplement Part of the Initial Study Report.
