Description
Summary:The objectives of the 2012 study were to compile existing information on nest sites and habitat use by eagles and other species of raptors, conduct occupancy and productivity surveys of all species, conduct surveys of bald eagles during fall and early winter, and delineate nesting habitats. The 2012 study was designed to provide current information that can be used to identify remaining data gaps; inform the development of 2013-2014 study plans in consultation with Alaska Energy Authority, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and other licensing participants; and provide data for use in identifying potential Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project-related impacts on eagles and other raptors, for eventual use during impact assessment, mitigation planning, and permitting for the Project. The study area consists of a two-mile buffer surrounding areas that would be disturbed by development, including the dam site, the inundation area, and alternative road and transmission lines. Additional nearby bald eagle sites have also been included.
